Widal Test

The Widal test is based on agglutination. It is a Salmonella antigen-antibody reaction. In the past it was used to diagnose typhoid fever. Serum of a patient was used as the source of antibody, and Salmonella typhi as the antigen. Today it is not recommended as a diagnostic test because there are other more sensitive and specific means available.
